Partners & Associates

Tim Rowland, CPA, CA

I joined the firm in 1990 after completing my CPA articles with the National Firm of Deloitte Touche in Calgary. I became a partner of the firm in 1992 and practice primarily with small to midsized owner operated business providing services in taxation, succession and estate planning, and financial advisory services. I also have a keen interest in agriculture businesses given the sector’s unique tax laws and the planning opportunities they present that are not afforded by conventional businesses.  I currently sit on the Ponoka Minor Hockey Board of Directors and have sat on past work committees and service groups within the community of Ponoka.

Gord Parker, CPA, CA

I was born and raised in Ponoka, moved to Edmonton for 7 years, and returned to Ponoka to raise my family.  I started at Rowland Parker & Associates in May of 2000, and am one of the Partners in the firm.

I am married to my wonderful wife, Jennifer, and we have 3 children.  We still have two daughters at home and are soon approaching our empty nest years and any life changes that may entail with cautious interest.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce and Chartered Accountant Designation.  I work with a wide variety of clients providing them with assurance services, advice on taxation matters and assisting them with planning for business decisions, estate and succession matters. I am responsible for many of the firms assurance engagements in the not-for-profit, local government organizations and other managed businesses sectors.

I have been a member in a number of community organizations, and enjoy spending my free time with family activities and pursuits.

Alison Rowland, CPA, CA

I was born and raised in Ponoka. I did leave the county limits for a short stint where I headed to Calgary to obtain my Bachelor of Commerce and pursue my CA designation. Upon the completion of my CA designation in 1998 I returned to Central Alberta to get out of the city and to work at a small rural Chartered Accounting office to gain exposure to agriculture and small business. I eventually found my way back to Ponoka to join the Rowland and Parker team.  I became a partner of Rowland Parker in 2000 and continue to enjoy the diversity a small rural practice has to offer. My practice focus is primarily on small businesses as I enjoy the energy of entrepreneurs and the exposure to a variety of industries, including medical practices, agriculture, retail, oil and gas, and owner managed small business. The best part of my job is the exposure we get to all aspects of operating a business, including taxation, finance, and everything in between.   In my spare time I enjoy the gym, spending time at the lake with my kids, and being outside away from my desk.

Margo Hatala, CPA, CA

I was born and raised in Ponoka but moved to Edmonton for a short time to obtain my Bachelor of Management degree with a Major in Accounting. I live in Ponoka County with my husband Jesse, and our boys Winston and Flint. In our spare time you will find us outside, most likely doing something with our kids and horses. I obtained my CA designation in 2010 and started with Rowland Parker & Associates shortly after. My practice has a nice mix of profit and not-for-profit clients, providing them with advisory, accounting, assurance, and tax services. The business advisory part of my practise I find to be very rewarding. I love to guide clients through all the unknowns that come with the various stages of their business and life cycles. In recent years I have started presenting to groups on the topic of wills and estate planning. This is an important yet hard topic that the majority of people tend to put off, so it is rewarding to work with clients and see their wishes executed. Lastly, I also work closely with the firm's students that are pursuing their accounting designations to provide them with mentorship and instruction.

Howard G. Rowland, CPA, CA

I started with Rowland Parker & Associates on September 1, 1962 as an articling student when the firm was Lindskog, Wheeler & Co. I am one of the partners in the firm, and one of my specialty areas would be Farm Taxation. I was born in Scotland, and arrived in Canada with my family in January 1946. I still live in Ponoka, with my wife of over 50 years, Patricia. We have 4 grown children and 7 grandchildren. Tim, the oldest, is a CA and is also a partner in the firm. Greg is also a CA, and is currently working in the resource industry. Christine is a Human Resources Officer with our health region, and Alison, a CA, is also a partner in the firm. I have served on many provincial and community organizations over the years, and continue to be involved in local health related organizations. In my spare time, I like to get outdoors and play tennis or golf, and do gardening and logging.

Lloyd R. (Mike) Parker, CPA, CA

I came to work as a student at a predecessor firm for Rowland, Parker & Associates in August of 1965, received my CA designation in 1972, and became a partner in the firm shortly thereafter. I am married to Joanne, a now retired school teacher here in Ponoka, and we have 4 grown children, and 8 grandchildren. I recently retired from the partnership and currently act as an Associate with the firm, which is allowing me less and less time spent in the office, and more time for pursuing things I enjoy such as golf and travelling, and spending time at our lake lot.
